


 |  The municipality of Ribeira Grande, in the north coast of São Miguel, has an area of 175 km2. It is, in an economic point of view, one of the most important ones of the Azores.
Agriculture and cattle breading, as well as dairy produce, tobacco, beetroot, saccharin, potato, chicory and tee, along with building construction, play an important part in the municipality’s economy.
With a little more than 27.000 inhabitants it has 14 parishes.
The majestic mountain of the Lagoa do Fogo contains a magic looking lake.
The flowers, the green valley, the boilers with some volcanic activity, the hot ferrous water lake, the beaches, the thermal spring waters and the indented north coast demand a visit and an extended stay around here .
